Confirmation Session on Initiation for Parents, Sponsors and Candidates, pg. 2

Belonging is a Basic Human Need

What does it mean to belong? Belonging is a basic human need. We belong from the moment we are born. For example, We belong to both a family and a nation the very instant we are born. We eventually belong to clubs and organizations. Belonging is a reality of life from the moment of our first breath to the moment we die. Christians believe that even after death, we belong to the communion of saints. Belonging is part of being human.

There is never a time when we don’t belong, but sometimes we don’t always feel like we belong and that is what really makes people sad and troubled.

DISCUSS:
Begin this session by telling each other when and where you feel like you really belong. Adults go first.
Then take a moment to talk about times when you feel like you don’t belong or you’re not welcome. What does that feel like and how can you address it?
