The Symbols of Wind and Breath
Do you remember how we talked about the Holy Spirit as an invisible presence in the world and in your life who encourages and empowers good things to happen? The Holy Spirit is like wind or breath. You can't see it, but you know it's there. You can see the effects of wind and breath. Swaying trees and blowing out candles on a birthday cake show us that wind and breath are real even though they are invisible to the naked eye.
The next video you'll watch is a clip from the movie The Lion King. Here is some background to the clip:
Simba is a young lion cub who was born to royal parents and was destined to be the next lion king. But he was associated with the death of his father by being in the wrong place at the wrong time in part because he was in the habit of disobeying his father. His evil uncle, Scar, convinced him that he was fully responsible for his father's death. The guilt he felt drove him to leave the pack and live on his own. Simba’s guilt feelings caused him to live a meaningless life pursuing small pleasures rather than living out his royal destiny. Scar told the pack that Simba had also died with his father. In the following clip, Rafiki, a spiritual leader and close advisor to Simba’s father, discovers that Simba is still alive. As you watch the clip, look for three ways that breath and wind are used as a way of communicating between Simba and Rafiki.
