The Saint Cecelia Chorale
The Saint Cecelia Chorale has a very important role as music ministers at Liturgy. According to Musica Sacram Instruction on Music in the Liturgy (March 1967): Its [the choir’s] duty is, in effect, to ensure the proper performance of the parts which belong to it, according to the different kinds of music sung, and to encourage the active participation of the faithful in the singing. Singers in high school and older are warmly welcome to become a member of the Saint Cecelia Chorale.
One of the most valuable music ministries is the CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE. This ensemble provides new as well as traditional and not-so-new music at one Liturgy each weekend at IHM. Guitarists, singers, flutists and other instrumentalists make up this group. Musicians in high school and older are always welcome to be a part of this very important music ministry.
Every parish needs a choir of young voices. Our young singers will serve as music ministers at selected IHM masses – generally the 11.00am Sunday Liturgy. Membership is open to all students in grades 4-8. This group lends refreshing youthful support to the parish and can ensure that there will be many years of music and celebrations here at IHM.
The Saint Cecelia Singers
A cantor leads the congregation in hymns, responsorial psalms and acclamations. The voice of the cantor brings to life the Word in Song. This ministry requires a pleasant singing voice (you do not have to be an opera singer!!), an understanding of the texts, and a communication with the congregation.
